Muscle injury
The calf muscles are far more prone to become strained or torn because of their major function in weight bearing and creating power while running and jumping in sports like rugby and football. This can be from a variety of causes, including overtraining when participating in a sport, or starting a new activity the body is not used to. This is because putting your body through a new type of stress increases the risk of injuring a muscle. Examples of this include beginning a new sport or starting training if the athlete has not finished a proper warm-up or achieved the range of movement about to be required to deliver sudden power.
