Coritcosteroid Injections
Targeted relief for joints and soft tissue – precision-delivered by experts

Why Choose The Re:PAIR Clinic?
At The Re:PAIR Clinic, we combine careful diagnosis with expert, ultrasound-guided treatment and a clear rehab plan. Our corticosteroid injections (often called “cortisone shots”) are delivered with imaging guidance to the precise structure causing pain — whether that’s a shoulder joint, an irritated bursa, or an inflamed tendon sheath. We use steroid injections thoughtfully, as part of a broader plan to restore movement and reduce pain for the long term.

What Are Corticosteroid Injections?
Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory medicines that calm irritated tissue inside and around joints. When placed accurately, they can:
-
Reduce inflammation and swelling
-
Ease pain to enable better sleep and movement
-
Create a “window” for rehab to work
We select the right medicine and dose for the right structure, and always pair treatment with movement advice to protect results.

A note on Kenalog / Triamcinolone Availability
There has been a national reduction in the availability of triamcinolone acetonide (Kenalog®) across some suppliers. We continue to stock and use Kenalog® where it is the most suitable option, because it offers dependable anti-inflammatory benefit and duration for many musculoskeletal conditions. When appropriate, or if individual factors make it preferable, we also use alternatives such as methylprednisolone. We’ll discuss the best choice for you at your appointment.

What Conditions Can Corticosteroid Injections Help With?
Image-guided steroid injections may be especially helpful for:
Joints & bursae
-
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
-
Shoulder impingement/bursitis (subacromial bursa)
-
AC joint arthritis
-
Knee osteoarthritis flare or synovitis
-
Hip trochanteric bursitis (part of “gluteal tendinopathy” complex)
-
Ankle or foot joint synovitis
-
Post-injury reactive synovitis
Tendon sheaths & soft tissue
-
Trigger finger & De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
-
Plantar fasciitis (selected cases)
-
Morton’s neuroma (as part of a staged pathway)
-
Iliopsoas or pes anserine bursitis
For degenerative tendinopathy in load-bearing tendons (e.g., mid-portion Achilles or patellar), we are typically cautious with steroid and may favour targeted rehab, shockwave, PRP, or HA depending on your case. We’ll explain the pros and cons for your specific presentation.

Why "Guided" Corticosteroids?
All injections at The Re:PAIR Clinic are ultrasound-guided. Guidance matters because it helps us:
-
Target the exact structure (joint, bursa, or tendon sheath)
-
Use the lowest effective dose where it’s needed
-
Avoid sensitive structures, reducing risk
-
Improve consistency of results versus “landmark-only” (blind) injections

What to Expect from Treatment
1) Consultation & Scan
A thorough assessment and, where useful, dynamic ultrasound to confirm the pain source.
2) Shared Decision-Making
We cover expected benefit, alternatives (e.g., physio, PRP, HA, shockwave), and timing around sport or work.
3) Precise Treatment
A sterile, ultrasound-guided injection with local anaesthetic for comfort. Most appointments take 30–40 minutes.
4) Aftercare & Rehab
Simple post-injection guidance (usually relative rest for 24–48 hours), then a graded return to activity with targeted exercises. We can coordinate with your physiotherapist.

How Quickly Will It Work - And How Long Will it Last?
-
Onset: Some feel improvement within days; for others it builds over 1–2 weeks.
-
Duration: Relief can last weeks to months depending on the condition, activity, and rehab adherence.
-
Repetition: Where helpful, injections can be repeated, typically no sooner than 6–8 weeks apart and kept to a sensible maximum per site each year. We’ll individualise this with you.
